Career with Pfizer

Heath Alan Tawney has held various positions at Pfizer for over two decades. For the last two years, he has served as a Cardiovascular Health and Sciences Professional for Pfizer, Inc., selling various medications, including Eliquis, Nurtec, and Paxlovid. His clients include Cardiology and Oncology departments, Primary Care, and Hospitals. He has also held a District Training role for Nurtec and attended Regional Ad Board Meetings.

Senior Specialty Healthcare Rep

Before accepting this position with Pfizer, he was the Senior Specialty Healthcare Representative for the Inflammation & Immunology Division for nearly 10 years with the pharmaceutical giant. In this role Heath consistently exceeded Xeljanz and Biopharmaceutical Inflectra salesquotas with increasing responsibilities in West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania in Rheumatology, Dermatology, and Gastroenterology. Heath also developed and maintained exceptional relationships with speakers, influential healthcare industry providers, Therapeutic Area Specialists, and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).

Additionally, he actively participated in continuing education through the Certified Medical Rep Institute Program. He educated and sold Pfizer products to physicians, residents, practitioners, Hospitals, pharmacies, nurses, and other healthcare industry members in person and virtually.

Heath’s other responsibilities in this role include developing and executing local business plans for increased market share. He analyzed area account information, recommended actions to maximize opportunities, and outlined tactics, activities, and resources in reimbursement, patient assistance PAP, and copay resources.

He utilized advanced customer-focused and consultative techniques, strategically assessing the customer’s knowledge and strategy to maintain high customer intimacy and customer knowledge of company products. Heath also developed creative sales strategies to reach “hard-to-see” accounts and applied diligent follow-up while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Heath shared his knowledge, mentoring and training new reps and onboarding them on procedures and specialty pharmacies.

He attended local, regional, and national conventions to keep current on issues relevant to Pfizer’s products.

Professional Healthcare Representative and Territory Manager

In 2002, Heath joined Pfizer (formerly Wyeth Pharmaceuticals) as a Professional Healthcare Representative and Territory Manager. He held this position for 11 years and was responsible for successfully launching Eliquis, Pristiq, Relistor, and Flumist. He consistently exceeded sales quotas and also sold Spiriva, Lipitor, Viagra, Sonata, Premarin, Premarin Cream, Prempro, Premphase, Protonix, Altace, Effexor XR, Chantix, Toviaz, and Detrol LA.

Heath mentored and trained reps as an Area Field Trainer and arranged speakers, displays, special programs, and policies. He was instrumental in influencing key accounts to recommend the company’s pharmaceuticals to maintain preferred formulary coverage across West Virginia. Heath also secured hospital contract agreements to keep Protonix on community hospital formularies.

Throughout his career, Heath has received numerous pharmaceutical sales awards in recognition of his work. Work at West Virginia Credit Bureau

Prior to finding success in the pharmaceutical industry, Heath Alan Tawney worked as a Marketing Representative for West Virginia Credit Bureau, CBC Companies, in Charleston, West Virginia, for three years. He was ranked number one in outside sales in 1999 and 2000, bringing on more clients than previous sales reps in the territory. Heath sold to banks, credit unions, mortgage and finance companies, hospitals, human resources, and auto dealerships, adopting a successful consultative approach to selling.

Heath also worked in his early career as a Technical Recruiter in Silicon Valley.

Education and Certifications

Heath graduated from West Virginia University (WVU), Morgantown, with a Bachelor’s degree. He is a Certified Medical Representative (CMR Certified) and an Advanced Medical Representative (AMR Certified).

Personal Life

Heath is a thrill seeker and adventurist with hobbies that include fishing, hiking, hunting, and mountain biking. He is an avid fly fisherman and fly tyer and a 20-year Trout Unlimited member. Heath is also a member of the Mountain State Sportsman’s Association and Hunting Clubs. He enjoys UTV, ATV, and dirt bike off-roading and is a Harley Davidson enthusiast.

Giving BackHeath Alan Tawney regularly donates to his church and to Trout Unlimited, a national non-profit organization with 300,000 members and supporters dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring America’s cold-water fisheries and their watersheds. Heath has volunteered his time towards stream restoration, trash cleanup, and fingerling trout stockings.
